Haramaya University Hosts U.S. Embassy Presentation on American Scholarship Programs
Representatives from the U.S. Embassy in Ethiopia hosted an informative public lecture at Haramaya University’s Afren Kello Hall on April 14, focusing on scholarship opportunities for students aspiring to study in the United States.
The session provided guidance to Haramaya University students and staff on navigating the U.S. higher education landscape, including application procedures, eligibility criteria, and financial aid options.
Mr. Ryan Bradeen, Public Diplomacy Officer at the U.S. Embassy, addressed the audience, acknowledging the significant costs associated with studying in the U.S., which encompass tuition, room and board, books, and other fees. “Studying at Colleges and universities in the United States can be prohibitively expensive, and many students rely on financial aid like scholarships, grants, and loans,” Bradeen explained.
He specifically highlighted the financial challenges international students may face due to ineligibility for U.S. federal or state aid and potential additional travel expenses. Despite these hurdles, Mr. Bradeen emphasized the value of the session, stating it was a “fantastic chance to explore funding options for academic pursuits in the USA” and aimed to help attendees “prepare more effectively.”
The event saw active participation from the university community, fostering discussion on accessing American higher education.
