Haramaya University Fosters Innovation through Technology and Business Idea Competition

Haramaya University’s Directorate of Entrepreneurship and Technology Incubation concluded a competition aimed at nurturing and supporting young innovators with promising technology and business ideas.

Twenty-three aspiring entrepreneurs took part in the event, where they presented their concepts and received support to further develop their ideas.

Dr. Yishak Yousuf, the Vice President of Research and Community Engagement at Haramaya University, highlighted the essential role of technological innovation in national development. He stated, “One measure of a nation’s developmental progress is its Technological Innovation Index. As a university, it is crucial to encourage and support innovative ideas, as they play a vital role in advancing the country. These ideas serve as valuable tools for translating our research findings into tangible benefits for the community. As a nation, we are motivated to pursue this path, and various efforts are currently underway. Our university will continue to contribute its share.”

Dr. Yishak YousufMrs. Kidesena Sebsebe, Director of the university’s Entrepreneurial and Technology Incubator, stated that the competition aims to empower individuals and groups with the potential to innovate in technology, generate viable business ideas, and create income-generating opportunities.

The competition showcased 23 presentations of technological innovations and business ideas, with three being selected as winners.

He urged competitors to recognize these obstacles and persist in overcoming them.

The competition was attended by Dr. Yishak Yousuf, Vice President of Research and Community Engagement, Dr. Abdi Mohamed, Vice President of Administration and Development, Director General of the Ethiopian Entrepreneurship Development Institute Dr. Hassan Hussein, various university directors, and other distinguished guests.
