Haramaya University Conducts Training on Outcome-Based Education and Program Accreditation

Haramaya University hosted a comprehensive training program focused on Outcome-Based Education (OBE), Quality Assurance, Curriculum Revision, and Program Accreditation from January 22-24, 2025.

This initiative aims to enhance the quality of education offered by the university and ensure compliance with the accreditation standards set by the Ethiopian Ministry of Education.

Dr. Meseret Amde, Academic Program Director at Haramaya University, announced the university’s commitment to accrediting 19 programs.

Dr. Abdi Mohammed, Vice President for Administration & Development, emphasized the significance of this training in improving the university’s educational standards and attracting a larger student population. He highlighted the growing demand for quality education and the mandatory requirement for all programs to undergo evaluation and recognition by the Ethiopian Education and Training Authority.

The training was facilitated by experienced experts from the Ethiopian Education and Training Authority. Dr. Duncan Ngusa, Deputy Director General of the Quality Audit and Promotion Directorate, underscored the importance of not only revising programs but also implementing robust quality assurance systems to ensure meaningful improvements.

Professor Mengistu Urge, Vice President of Academic Affairs, emphasized the training’s focus on equipping academics with the necessary tools, knowledge, and skills. He stressed the importance of active participation, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas among participants, focusing on the four key areas of OBE, Quality Assurance, Curriculum Revision, and Program Accreditation.

The training is expected to foster a culture of quality education within the university and establish a strong foundation for quality leadership.

Participants, including Haramaya University faculty members such as Tariku Birhanu and Lidya Mekonen, expressed their appreciation for the valuable insights gained on preparing effective teaching materials that will enhance student learning outcomes.

According to Dr. Meseret Amde this training initiative represents a significant step forward for Haramaya University in its commitment to providing high-quality education that meets the evolving needs of its students and the nation.
